Picnic Day 2006

April 23rd, 2006

Yesterday, Raymond and I decided to check out picnic day. But first, we had to see a couple potential houses for next year. The first house we saw was in a good location on Sycamore. I had actually been in that house at a party last year, but a different group of people were living there now. It was a decent size, wasn’t in the greatest condition, but the landlord said she would be doing a lot of work on it before anyone moved in. The price was a little steep though, $2175, which is out of our range.
The second house we went to look at looked really nice from the outside, but the landlord had the wrong keys, and told us that the owner wanted to accept 20 applications before she made a decision, so that one is pretty much out as well.

Next Ramond and I hit up picnic day. We parked in the new parking structure which just opened on picnic day. Stefanie yelled at me from across the street, yes she was drunk. We decided to head to the quad to grab some Korean BBQ, and checked out the Taiko Drums. We looked for the Jack Russel Terrier races, but either they were over, or they were cancelled…lame.

We walked around a little more, but finding nothing really interesting we headed back to Freeborn to await the start of Spider Silk Dress, and hang out with Kate who was stage managing. This jazz group was preforming before Spider Silk Dress, there were two guys, then this girl came out and was dancing. I was like let me check this out…..until I put my glasses on…..she was like 70! So that was weird.

Spider Silk Dress came on, and they were pretty good. The lead singer seemed a bit flustered, but they were still good. It was kind of sad because no one was in the audience, I thought more people would have wanted to check them out, I heard them on Sounds of Sac on KWOD, so I figured other people would have too.

After that Raymond and I were just bugging Kate. Then Daniel and Hau showed up, looking for what was going on at Freeborn, and they joined us. We hung out for about an hour, watched Hero’s late mission, which had a very fruity lead singer, and then we ate In-N-Out.

Kate called while we were at In-N-Out and said her and Brianne were walking over to Bar Bernardo to grab a Wikki, so we walked over and joined them. Daniel and Hau weren’t too sure about the whole bar thing, I think it was Hau’s first time at a bar, which was funny because she was really confused when they were checking ID’s at the door.

We all got a Wikki. Simon finished his really quickly, then drank most of Hau’s because she didn’t really like it. Also Daniel isn’t really a drinker, and he didn’t like the Wikki, so Kate finished his. Daniel, Hau, and Simon wanted to leave because It was hot and crowded in there. I wanted to stay to hang out with Kate and Brianne more, but I had to drive Ray and Simon home, so I left too. I asked Kate to call me if they did anything else because I still wanted to chill with them.

I took Ray and Simon home, and Daniel wanted to come over and play basketball, so we shot around for a bit until Kate called and said they were going to Soga’s.
I met Kate and Brianne at Soga’s, it was cool.  Kate was pretty drunk when I got there. Apparently Kate got hit on by some old guy, which was pretty funny. We saw Brandon S. and Kris (with a K), and some of Kate and Brianne’s friends there. After about an hour we decided to check out “Radcliff” which was where Jessica was partying at Nishan’s place. When we arrived Nishan was already passed out on the couch, and the place was pretty chill. We found Jessica in Nishan’s room, all marked up. Apparently, she had passed out and her friends had pwned her.

We chilled it bit at Nishan’s, then we checked out this party across the street. They had this band playing, and it was pretty awesome. They played a bunch of covers, so everyone knew the songs, and everyone was really into it and dancing, a really good atmosphere. I went back and forth a few times between Nishan’s and “Cormac’s,” which was the party across the street. The cops showed up about 12 and shut the party down, so we headed back to Nishan’s for a bit then decided to head home.

I took Kate and Brianne to Freeborn to pick up their stuff. Kate ran in to grab the stuff, and Brianne convinced me to “Ghostride the Whip” while we were waiting…..to Weezer…which was pretty funny. Kate came out pretty much right as this was going on, so that was pretty funny. Then Kate couldn’t figure out her seatbelt (she was drunk), so I had to buckle her in….oh Kate

I dropped them off at Brianne’s car and headed home.

Final Though: It was a really fun evening, especially hanging out with Kate again, which I haven’t done in a while. I wish things could just be this simple.
