Camping with the O’Haras
August 1st, 2006
This past week I went camping with Kate and her family at Manresa State Beach near Santa Cruz.
It was great, for many reasons.
Firstly, it wasn’t too hot. It had been between 100 and 110 in Davis the week prior to the trip, so it felt great to be in sub 90 degree temperatures. I even got to put a sweatshirt on in the mornings and evenings.
It was nice and sunny on Monday and Tuesday, but the rest of the week was a little overcast, which was a little disappointing, but still a welcome relief to the aforementioned Davis weather. As I said, it was sunny on Tuesday, so we went down to the beach. I figured I didn’t need sun screen because it wasn’t too hot. Yeah, bad move. I got burnt everywhere, even my scalp, which sucks. Now its all peeling, which is really gross.
Another reason the trip was nice, was because I got a chance to get to know Kate’s family a little more. I had met them all before, but spending a whole week with her family allowed me to get to know them a lot better. They are really good people. They are pretty funny too, they all have their own little quirks. They got to know me a little better as well. My sister warned me, “Don’t make a fool of yourself!” Thanks sis, I think I did alright.
Camping with the O’Haras’ makes me look forward to vacation with my own family, which should be just as fun.
