Cashing Out

February 12th, 2007

I took my bottles of change that I have been saving for the last couple years into Safeway today to use their coinstar machine to count the change and give me cash (bills) for it.

I went in hoping to get enough to but a 6 pack of Newcastle some tortillas, and cheese for dinner. I was shocked when the pennies added up to $9.50 ($8.65 after a 8.9% commission), and the nickels and dimes added up to about $65 (57.39 after 8.9% commission)! $66.04! By the way, there were NO quarter in the change, I save those separately for metered parking and whatnot. I treated myself to some Fruit, Klondike bars and Kettle chips and and still had over $30 left. Sweet!

The $65 more saved for Ireland!
