I found this great article about understanding nerds.
If you are a nerd, or have a special nerd in your life you should check it out.

I know this is a little late, but since tomorrow is the “Super Tuesday” I wanted to show my support for Barack Obama’s candidacy for the president of the United States of America.
I am supporting Obama because of his stance of many of the issues related to technology and the internet, and well as his plans for healthcare, and his views on immigration.
Many people I speak to claim he is not experienced enough to be president. I feel that while he has not been in Washington as long as the other candidates running for president, his lack of exposure in this area only means he is less disconnected to the rest of Americans and what they need right now.
I hope you will all consider voting for Barack Obama for President of the United States of America.
The New York times has an interesting article comparing Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to the Mac and PC respectively.
Tomorrow is primary day here in California. Make sure you vote.
With OINK gone, it has been hard to find good music torrent, especially for less mainstream music.
Things in this area have gotten a little easier with the launch of YouTorrent, a torrent search engine that compares torrents in real time so you can choose the best torrent for any album, tv show, movie, or linux distro (if your into that sort of thing).

2007 was a great year for me. I finished by bachelors degree, travelled through Europe, moved back home and had a little time off, found a job, and finally moved to Santa Monica.I’ve learned a lot about the world and myself this year, and I’m excited about what’s next in 2008.
I look forward to finally getting settled in Santa Monica, and hopefully focusing a little more on my side projects which I have been neglecting the past few months.
After being abroad for 6 months I was ready to come home, but now that I have been back for a few months I am ready to so some more traveling. I look forward to my families Hawaii trip in August, as well as possibly taking a trip to New York sometime in the late spring.
My bug has been good to me 7 years, and I’ll never sell it, but driving back and forth to Santa Monica without a heater, and having to push start it every tenth time I start the car makes me think its time for something a little more reliable. I don’t think I want a brand new car just yet, but I’m ready for something made this millennia.
So those are my plans for 2008. Happy New Year!
This reminds me of my days in ECS150 where we had to modify the FreeBSD kernel. Actually this pretty much reminds me of all my experience with installing or upgrading Unix based systems (expect for Mac OS X).
We all know what a great job FEMA did during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, so naturally Deputy Administrator Harvey E. Johnson didn’t want to ruin FEMA’s pristine reputation in it’s response to this years California Wildfires.
So when it came time for a press conference to talk about FEMA’s contribution to the emergency efforts in California, Harvey continued FEMA’s stellar reputation for competent decision making. Instead of inviting actual members of the press, who might ask questions that are over critical of FEMA, he decided to dress up members of his staff as reporters and put on a little press conference skit.
During the “press conference”, which was broadcast live on Fox News, Johnson’s staff asked him softball questions which made FEMA look like they were doing a “heckuva job.” In addition, Johnson placed the credit for the extraordinary emergency response to the California Fires in FEMA’s hands saying, “I am very happy with FEMA’s response so far, if you look at where FEMA’s come over the last couple of years…this is a FEMA and federal government who is leaning forward, not waiting to act. ” Great job Harvey.
Unfortunately, it looks like FEMA has not come very far since Katrina. They are staging press conferences, and taking the credit for California’s excellent emergency response infrastructure, that is in place to deal with these annual fires, as well as the relatively frequent earthquakes.
Tomorrow morning I start my first day as a Web Developer at Mobile Messenger. Here is a fitting xkcd comic in honor of the occasion.
“No, its ok, shhhhh”
